Who are the churches of Christ?
The name on the outside of our building reflects two of our highest priorities: it is CHRIST CENTERED and BIBLE BASED.
There are many names associated with the church of the New Testament. We use this particular name because it emphasizes the fact that the church belongs to Christ, since he purchased it with His blood on the cross. As members of His church, we acknowledge and appreciate the great price that Christ paid for it. As a result, both locally and worldwide, we support the church with our prayers, our labors, and our financial resources.
What is a Christian?
"...and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch."--Acts 11:26
As the name used to identify our local congregation, the way we refer to ourselves individually (as members of the church) reflects the same two priorities. Because it is Christ that we are striving to follow, in every aspect of our lives, we wear the Scriptural name that most clearly communicates the fact that we are HIS disciples.
Upon What are Our Beliefs Based?
"All flesh is like the grass, and all its glory like the flower of the grass. The grass withers and the flower falls off, but the Word of the Lord abides forever. And this is the word which was preached to you."--1 Peter 1:24-25
"...but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."--2 Peter 3:18
"He is also the head of the body, the church..."--Collosians 1:18
Whether our Bible knowledge is great or small, the church provides an environment that ministers to us at our current level, but encourages us to greater understanding and spiritual maturity. And because the message of God's Word is timeless, we base all of our teaching and preaching upon it.
The authority for all spiritual questions is Christ. There is an objective standard. Therefore, we evaluate all of our actions, both individually and as a congregation, against the standard of His teachings. We acknowledge Christ as the only head of the church; as members of His body, we submit to HIM in all things.
How Do We Experience True Fellowship with God and Other Christians?
"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me."--John 14:6
"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."--John 13:35
We acknowledge Jesus as the only means of having a right relationship with the heavenly Father. He alone makes our salvation possible, and it is only through Him that we can have true peace and rest. Within the fellowship of believers that assemble here, we strive to provide the loving environment that Jesus commanded His disciples to have. Because of Christ and His example, we can serve one another in love; always seeking the greatest good for one another. When any member of our fellowship has a need, it is our privilege to help in meeting it. Our prayer is that any who come to visit us will be able to recognize us as Christ's disciples by our love!
How Do We Worship God?
"...those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."--John 4:24
"Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth."--John 17:17
"...the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him."--Acts 5:32
Since it is God we are worshipping, we offer our worship in a way that He has said is acceptable to Him! In order to be sure our worship is offered "in truth", we follow the pattern exhibited by the church in His written Word. And to be sure that our worship is "in spirit", we follow the same pattern of obedience that has brought the Holy Spirit to Christians since the first Pentecost after Jesus' resurrection!
Can We Have Full Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life?
"These things I have written...that you may KNOW that you have eternal life."--1 John 5:13
Blessed assurance! Because we are Christ's we can know with certainty that we will spend eternity with our Father in Heaven.
